BREAKING NEWS - UPDATE: Akin Gump swoops for Simmons & Simmons pair

(Follows breaking news alert, adds details throughout)

Two of London’s leading hedge fund lawyers, Tim Pearce and Ian Meade, have left Simmons & Simmons for rival Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

The pair will join as partners and “significantly expand the firm’s London practice”, according to a statement.

“Tim and Ian are two well respected and highly regarded lawyers and bring exceptional insights and experience into this market and the legal and commercial issues on which our clients are increasingly focused,” said Prakash Mehta, co-head of Akin Gump’s investment funds and private equity practice group worldwide.

The statement continued that the pair will work alongside the company’s existing fund teams and clients in New York, Washington DC, Dallas, Abu Dhabi and Beijing.

“The investment funds scene globally is rapidly changing and the opportunities for our clients in the UK and internationally are enormous,” added Mehta.

Their departures represent a blow for Simmons & Simmons, a leading player in the hedge fund legal world.
