Hudson Varick launches maiden hedge fund

Mark Simons, formerly of Platinum Grove Asset Management, has launched his maiden hedge fund, HFMWeek has learned.

After setting up Greenwich, Connecticut-based Hudson Varick Management, the flagship Hudson Varick Partners LP fund launched this month. The fund implements a merger arbitrage event-driven strategy and is primarily US-focused.
Simons, who has over 20 years of experience in investment management, was a senior strategist at Platinum Grove where he ran the firm’s merger arbitrage portfolio until it closed in October 2008. Before joining the Myron Scholes-founded firm, he worked at Tribeca Investments where he ran the merger arbitrage desk.

Brett Taylor, who worked with Simons at Platinum Grove, has also been part of Hudson Varick since its inception, as director of research. He held a similar role at Platinum Grove
