It’s been a difficult year for Ucits. Post-crisis, as a perceived lack of transparency and regulation in the hedge fund sector led to a dearth of investor inflows, Newcits funds were held up by many as a panacea of sorts. Flash forward, however, and uneven performance and growing concerns about the sudden ubiquity of Ucits has meant that, for some, the fund structure is beginning to lose its allure. Not so for German institutional investors though, it seems, as a recent survey commissioned by alternative asset manager Aquila Capital revealed that nearly six out of ten consider Ucits compliance to be key when allocating to the absolute return space. For some, it seems, the Ucits dream is still going strong.
