Institutional investors stick with hedge funds

A recent survey of institutional investors’ intentions, conducted by SEI and Greenwich Associates, has concluded that most institutions aren’t backing off from their long-term commitment to hedge funds.

Mark Anson, president of Nuveen Investments, who has ten years’ experience at investor giants CalPERS and Hermes Pensions Management, issued a note of optimism: “A lot of the charlatans have been cleaned out, so many of the players remaining in the space are quality players, and that’s the silver lining in a very dark cloud.”

Anson’s new venture, Nuveen Alternative Investments, has recently expanded Nuveen Investments remit into alternatives, offering tentative investors moving into hedge funds a global endowment model offering long-term absolute returns while taking on significantly less risk than the traditional market.
